Kunstmuseum Reutlingen | Spendhaus
One museum, two locations, three main focuses: the Reutlingen Art Museum, with two centrally located sites and around 2,000 square meters of gallery space, is one of the largest municipal institutions for modern and contemporary art in southwestern Germany. The Kunstmuseum Reutlingen | Spendhaus, a six-storey timber-framed building originally built as a granary in 1519, has been showing collection presentations and special exhibitions since the museum was founded in 1989. The focus is on the collection, with its emphasis on the artistic woodcut and relief printing from the 19th century to the present. In addition, monographic and topical exhibitions are shown with works on paper or wood by artists whose work expands the medium to include new aspects. The exhibitions of the prizewinners of the internationally renowned Jerg-Ratgeb Prize are also organized in the Spendhaus. In the spirit of “art for all”, the art education programs at the “Baumhaus - Lounge & Art Space” and the printing workshop in the vaulted cellar are open to a wider public.
