Narrowest street in the world

Permanently Open

According to the Guinness Book of Records, Spreuerhofstraße has been the narrowest street in the world since 2007. The narrowest point is only 31 cm wide. The street was built after the city fire of 1726, which mostly destroyed Reutlingen. A fire probably started by a burning candle in the house of shoemaker Friedrich Dürr, very close to the “Nikolaikirche”, in September 1726 (rumor says that the candle had fallen through a crack in the floorboards into the straw storage below during a tryst between the servant girl and her lover). In a very short time, the fire destroyed a large part of the city. The fire made 7,000 people homeless. Only one death was reported. The Schreuerhof was originally a grain store for the Reutlingen Hospital. In this charming corner of the city, the past is still alive .
